Repeat QAL Flimsy is Done, Maybe

Being on the road has finally caught up with my schedule as my blogging posts have gone south while we are traveling north.  Currently, we are just north of Rockaway Beach for those of you who are familiar with the Oregon coast.  I'm loving the beaches and the small towns along the coast.

On my down days I worked on my Repeat QAL mini-quilt and it is sort of done.  I had used Kona Snow for the background and when I got to the outer border I didn't have enough of what I had pulled, but thought I had bought two yards at another time.  It looked right in the RV, but after I had the border on and went outside and took pictures, it isn't Snow, but White.  ACK!!!  It is really noticeable too.  All the pictures were taken at the RV park we are now in.  The railroad tracks aren't used anymore, thank goodness as we were parked right above them.  Many thanks to Patty at Elm Street Quilts for the quilt along.  She also has her alphabet for sale here if you're interested.  Her instructions are very well written.

We were able to meet up with some friends, that spend their summers in Garibaldi, for lunch on Thursday which was a lot of fun.

On Friday we visited the Cape Meades Lighthouse in Tillamook which we were able to go up in.

Also, on Friday I went to Jane's Fabric Patch in Tillamook.  It is an amazing store with a great row-by-row pattern so check them out if you get to Tillamook. They had some Transfer-Eze that you can print an embroidery pattern on then stick it onto your fabric and stitch away.  It is water soluble and washes away.  One of their customers was in the sewing room and showed me what she was working on with it.  She has been using it for quite awhile and raved about it so, of course, I came home with some.  Can't wait to use it as I hate tracing the patterns onto my fabric.  You can find it here, but it was $6.00 less at Jane's.

There is another great quilt shop in Cannon Beach by the name of Center Diamond Fabrics.  They didn't have any of the Northcott Sandscapes, but did have some Kona Snow so I bought three yards as I love it.  I also snagged their row-by-row pattern.  Now to decide if I want to rip out the outer border of my Repeat mini-quilt and add the border in Snow.  I'll be thinking on this for a bit.

Monday we went up to the quilt shop in Astoria as I'm still looking for the Northcott Sandscapes collection which nobody seems to carry.  After that we visited the Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach where you can see the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse.  As you can see by the picture, you can't visit it.  We have now visited all the lighthouses along the Oregon coast and I have magnets for all but this last one.

Not a lot of stitching going on, but that is okay.

Linking up with Freemotion by the River.

Happy Stitching!

  1. I think the color difference looks fine, especially if you bind with a different blue / teal maybe? It can be really hard to tell the difference between White and Snow even in bright light sometimes.

    1. Thanks Yvonne for the encouragement. I have it hanging up so I can keep viewing it to see how much it bugs me. The bugging is diminishing. :)

    1. Thanks Patty. It is always fun to search for places to take photos. Sometimes there just aren't any. The QAL was so much fun and I hope you will be doing more of them. Love the alphabet!

  3. I bet once it's quilted, the color difference will be less noticeable. I don't see it in the photos. That is one cute quilt! And great photos, too.

  4. Many thanks Ramona. The more I look at it the more I think it will be okay. Glad you stopped by and hope you'll visit again soon.

  5. Your life sounds so amazing Jennifer! What wonderful adventures you have!
Your Quilt looks great and I actually like that there is a slight difference in the snow and white colors - it gives it a bit of an ombre effect. :)

  6. I love it! I didn't see the difference until you pointed it out, and even then I had some trouble. Lol. I've never seen a lighthouse in person before, but I'm loving your pictures of them. :)

  7. I really like the different in the white vs the snow. It frames the saying so well. I definitely want to put this mini on my list to make for my sewing room. Also, I love seeing your photos from the PNW. I used to live in Seattle and we traveled down to Portland, also stopping at Tillamook. That was before I started quilting. Had I been a quilter at that time, I probably would have opted for a stop at the fabric store instead of the cheese factory. Wait, who am I kidding? I would have insisted on going to both places!

    1. Thanks Diana. I think I may just leave the Repeat mini-quilt as is. It was a great QAL and Patty's instructions are spot on. It is amazing that quilt shops are so different. Some I love and others not so much, but they can't cater to everyone.

  8. It looks great! I love that you are full time RVers! I've given thought to doing the same several times over the last few years! Even picked out the camper......with quilting in mind! Enjoy!

  9. I think your quilt came out GREAT! If you hadn't pointed out that the white/snow difference wasn't intentional, I would have thought it was exactly right. If it still bugs you, maybe you could do a little FMQ filler on the white, using a colored thread to really make it shine. A pale turquoise thread would tie the quilting right back to the blue border. Hm, now I want to try just exactly such a thing :)

    1. Many thanks Louise for the great suggestions. I think I'm going to leave it as is and do some fun FMQ on it.

  10. I'd be okay with the white/snow issue. I hate ripping! But you have to make that decision. (I'd say no!) I'm so glad I found you! We spend only a few weeks a year in our tiny camper, but amazingly I've found that I can easily make quilt tops in our cozy space. You have one new follower. :-)

    1. Hi Mary, so glad you stopped by and have become a follower. WooHoo! I'm pretty sure I won't be ripping the seams out and replacing the border. I hate ripping too.
