Slow Sunday Stitching

I'm linking up with Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching today.  Hope you join in too.

This week seems to have been a bit slow all the way around.  I did get some things accomplished though.  On Wednesday, I ironed the backing and top of my Grand Illusion quilt and packed it up to take to quilt guild on Thursday morning.  I use a laundry tote to transport it all as right now I don't have a place to do my pin basting at home.  So off I went.  Got it basted and started quilting it yesterday and now have half of it quilted.  WooHoo!! Usually, I will do a quarter a day, but took a break inbetween quarters and had no aches or pains from doing that much.

Ready for pin basting.

Quilting with a large meandering.

I also did some stitching on my sleigh block from Geoff's Mom Pattern Co.  It may be finished and it may not.  It is supposed to have round ornaments on the tree and I haven't decided if I'm going to add them or not.  It does look a little plain right now so I may add them, or I may sew some beads on to it.   I guess you'll just have to come back later in the week and see what I end up doing.

I have been gathering supplies for the cross-stitch stocking I'll be making for my granddaughter for next Christmas.  My local shopping options for cross-stitching supplies is Walmart which is extremely limited in that area as you can imagine.  I've bought all the floss that was called for in the pattern and still need a whole lot more.  We will be going down to Las Vegas to spend Christmas with family and I'm sure I can get the rest of what I need there, but shopping either the day before or the two days after Christmas is not really what I'd want to do, but it will have to happen if I want to get the supplies before we head out for our travel adventures.  I don't want to have to try and find the supplies while on the road as we like to take the back roads and avoid big cities if at all possible.  Here is a close up (a very poor one) of the stocking I'll be making her.  She is the free spirit in our family and loves the outdoors so I thought this would be a good choice for her.  She turned 20 in October.

I thought I'd throw in a picture of a little mug rug I made when I first started machine quilting.  I was practicing stitching in the ditch.  I used some leftover fabric I had from making a tote which I use when I travel and go to quilt guild.

In the mail this week, I received The Quilter's Planner created by Stephanie Palmer at Late Night Quilter.  I love it.  Thank you Stephanie.

My medical appointments are winding down.  I have an unpleasant procedure tomorrow so am on a liquid diet today.  Then there is only one doctor appointment and an eye appointment left after that.  In December, I had 11 appointments which is about 10 too many for me, but all necessary.

After Christmas we will be in rushing around mode to get everything ready to travel.  Our hopes are to leave by the 10th of January if all goes as scheduled.  I'm looking forward to being back on the road, although I'm not so sure my husband is as he has to do all the hooking up and unhooking of the 5th wheel, not to mention all the driving.  Yes, I can and do drive, but not pulling unless I absolutely had to.

May you and your family have a blessed Christmas.

  1. If you decide not to do ornaments I think it would look as if it had been cut in the forest and was being brought to the house...I kind of like it as is! :)

    1. I had the same thoughts Deb about the tree having just been cut and being taken home, but it looked a bit too plain so I did add beads to it, silver and red on the tree and a green one on top. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Hope you'll be back soon.

  2. good luck getting back on the road when you wish to. Sorry you had so many appointments but I bet you are glad to have those cataracts removed. We do some travel but have a small motorhome that is not large enough to live in full time- I'm comfortable with two months but not longer than that. I do not drive it as we tow a car and I'm not comfortable with large vehicles. I understand your not doing it. Where are you going next?

    1. Hi Karen. It is very, very nice to be seeing clearly again after the cataracts were removed. I had to most unpleasant procedure done today so only two appointments left and those won't be bad at all. Our first stop will most likely be Quartzsite, AZ to visit some friends and then we'll head east to Florida where my aunt and cousin live. I haven't seen them in years so it will be really nice to see them again.

    1. Thanks Kate. I do have the top all quilted except for the two borders and binding. I hope to get the borders finished up tomorrow and then see if I can create binding from my stash for it as I did have material left over from the quilt. Please stop in again.

  4. You've been busy busy busy! Good luck with your holiday sewing and shopping, as well as your appointments. I understand not driving while hauling the fifth wheel; my dad has always been the one to drive when we're hauling too! Let us know how you like the planner! :)

    1. It has been a very busy time, but for the most part enjoyable. I hope to get the quilt finished up before we leave for Vegas on Wednesday or Thursday. It is going to be our quilt so no rush other than I want to have it completed before heading out. I will be doing periodic planner reports so stay turned. You are my most faithful follower. Merry Christmas!

    1. Hi again Julierose. It is sometimes a challenge in the 5th wheel, but not impossible. I love the stocking too. May need to make one for me one day except I'm not too good at making something twice. Be sure to stop by again. Hugs!

    1. Thanks Deb and Merry Christmas to you. I'm thinking that stocking will take me quite a while to finish. I hope I'll be able to get all the floss I need this week while in Vegas.

    1. I hope so too Kaja. I know the JoAnns in Henderson has a good floss supply so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If not there maybe at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

    1. Yep, medical just about done and the worse are definitely done. I'm looking forward to doing cross-stitch again and hoping its not too hard. Everytime I look at it I think it going to take a long, long time to get it done, but I do have a year to get two done. Haven't decided what to do for the second one.
