I also gifted my son and his soon-to-be wife their quilt. I didn't get a picture of them with it as things have been a bit hectic the last couple of days, but here is the quilt which I called collected and I quilted with loop-d-loops and stars.
The wedding is this evening at 6:00 and it promises to be a wonderful experience for all of us. They had the rehersal last night and it was a lot of fun and a few tears were shed as they practiced their vows.
I decided to piece the back of the quilt for my grandson out of more recycled men's shirts I had collected and I now have a pile of 193, 5 1/2" squares. I estimated that I'll need about 231 so today during some free time I'll be ironing a couple more shirt pieces and cutting those up. It will be the first time I've tried to do a pieced back. Of course I'll posts pictures as I go. This is the pile I have so far. You can see a few from the shirts I used on the front, but there aren't too many of those.
I hope the wedding goes well! Your quilts are fab and I love the recycled shirts - great colours, warm and snuggly! I'm also working with old shirts today :) (Well, when I'm not looking at everyone else fab work!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephie. The wedding was fantastic. After tonights family dinner I'm ready to get back home and back to some serious quilting.
DeleteI used plaids out of old shirts in my log cabin earlier this year! Just love the look of them in a quilt! Your two gifted quilts are gorgeous! Enjoy your precious time with your family!
ReplyDeleteMany, many thanks Carla. It was fun shopping for the shirts and now finally using them.
DeleteSo glad you got to see your family again, and on such a happy and joyous occasion! Weddings are always great fun. :) Your quilts look fabulous and I'm sure they will be much appreciated in the years to come. Good luck piecing the back of your quilt, it sounds like your quilt will be double sided (which is totally awesome!).
ReplyDeleteThank you for your very kind comments. Yep, it will be a double sided quilt. I've never pieced a back before so time will tell if I like it.
DeleteBeautiful quilts! Glad you are able to spend this special time with your family.
ReplyDeleteJeanne, it has been a wonderful time and the wedding was amazing. The ceremony was outside and right after it a rainbow appeared in the sky.
DeleteBeautiful job on the quilts. Enjoy the wedding and family visiting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb. I just started quilting about a year and a half ago and there is so much I want to do. My stash is overtaking our fifth wheel. I need to get busy and use some of it so I can buy more. :-)
DeleteBeautiful gift quilts... I'm sure they will be well loved!
ReplyDeleteKathy, it was a lot of fun making them and can't wait to finish up my grandson's so I can get my quilt (Grand Illusion) quilted and on my bed.
